ESPA Connector Technology manufactures and distributes cable terminals, custom stampings, connectors and wire accessories. The company has created specialized product applications across the medical, mining, telecom, automotive, domestic and electronics industries.

Their Business Challenge

ESPA’s existing business management software was no longer meeting its needs, particularly in the areas of invoicing, stock control, manufacturing, costing and finished goods. Stock control was insufficient and there was a tendency for stock to double when goods were received from subcontractors.

The Outcome

With the implementation of SYSPRO 8, ESPA has seen its entire operation improve across all processes from the system to the production floor, Bill of Materials, the work center, finished goods and subcontractors.

Meeting needs without modifying processes

ESPA selected SYSPRO 8 for its ability to meet all the company’s needs without requiring modifications to business processes. Contributing factors included more accurate data, reduced error levels and the extensive further benefits made possible by a fully integrated ERP solution.

Vic Cortez, Director of ESPA Connector Technology, says: “Having seen the SYSPRO demo and with our experience of other packages, we knew that SYSPRO could handle our needs. In fact, it’s the first package we’ve come across that can do everything we need. And for the first time, we are dealing with people who speak the same language and understand our business. In the past, software vendors made grand promises and the outcome was a nightmare. Plus, we didn’t have to modify our business processes. The system has been set up to meet our needs, so it has adapted to us rather than vice versa.”

A further plus was that the staff found it easy to adapt to SYSPRO because the system had been set up according to the way they work. All staff members across the organization were trained on the solution, ensuring there is capacity for people to fill in for their colleagues when required.

ESPA worked closely with SYSPRO partner Intuitive IT solutions on the configuration and implementation of SYSPRO 8. The company went live on SYSPRO on 1 March 2023, the first day of its new financial year, following the training which ran from January to mid-February. From Day 1 of go live, there was buy-in from all staff.

Enhanced accuracy, reduced errors

Prior to implementing SYSPRO, any reporting that was needed had to be done in Excel and then taken through to the software package, increasing the risk of inaccuracies and human error. With SYSPRO, however, all data is driven by the system.

“With SYSPRO, what you put in is what you get out. Our accuracy has improved by at least 80%,” Cortez says. “The information that we pull from the system is live and there is only one version of the truth. We don’t need a third-party package, as any report we need is available. We can generate reports on fast movers, slow movers, prices and so on, making the operation far easier to manage.”

Nothnagel agrees. “SYSPRO handles everything. Any functionality we didn’t have with our previous system comes standard in SYSPRO – from production to raw material, issuing, scrap, sub-contracting, purchasing and every other aspect of the business.”

The road ahead

For now, Cortez and Nothnagel are satisfied that SYSPRO is being used in accordance with the company’s requirements. “It’s still fairly new, so as we go forward we will look at other areas where SYSPRO can deliver business benefits. These are likely to include Landed Cost Tracking, Asset Register Management and Material Requirements Planning,” Cortez says.
