Established in 1987 and based in Leicester in the United Kingdom, BPW Limited is a subsidiary of BPW Bergische Achsen KG, Europe’s leading axle and suspension manufacturer of trailers and semi-trailers. The company prides itself on high levels of customer service and has proved resilient off the back of building and assembling axles, suspensions and transport equipment.

Their Business Challenge

BPW Limited began working with NexSys in 2007 and the adoption of SYSPRO has helped it respond to changing customer demand, build its manufacturing capabilities and gear up for future growth. Initially, the business used SYSPRO purely as an accounting and stock management system. However, when BPW Limited began assembling axles in 2016 it needed to exploit the system’s full range of manufacturing support.

The Solution

In line with its practice of staying up-to-date with the latest version of SYSPRO, BPW Limited was an early adopter of SYSPRO 8. SYSPRO partner NexSys played a significant role in helping BPW Limited optimize its use of the system.

Exploiting new features

BPW Limited has customized SYSPRO to meet the changing needs of its business. In addition, the fully integrated SYSPRO and NexSys solution provides an all-encompassing production and warehousing system that supports higher levels of automation.

Michelle Kazakevics, BPW Limited’s IT Manager, says: “Having an integrated system has allowed us to track everything in real time, from the start to the end of the manufacturing process. We know what our stock is doing and where everything is. We’ve also been able to integrate SYSPRO with other internal systems so that various departments can share information.”

SYSPRO sends job information to the production jig so that BPW Limited can produce what is required. Each axle produced is booked in instantly, providing an up-to-date inventory so that the warehouse can replenish stock accordingly. Similarly, when job numbers are inputted, commands are automatically sent to the warehouse, advising staff which products to pick for which customer.

“The time savings are considerable,” Kazakevics says. “It’s a comprehensive system which helps us tremendously.”

Company-wide integration

Through its long-term partnership with NexSys, BPW Limited has been able to make better use of SYSPRO. The system has been introduced to a growing number of departments and is used by users throughout the business to some degree. For instance, the sales team uses it to input orders, while the Warranty Division uses it to check stock levels before committing to send out new parts.

Now that each element of the operation has full insight into what is happening, users no longer have to waste time searching for information. They have the data they need at their fingertips and are empowered to make informed decisions.

To continue benefiting from ongoing enhancements, BPW Limited was an early adopter of SYSPRO 8. “We’re keen to ensure we have the latest version. We go along to the customer days and are always impressed by the new modules and features. We don’t want to get left behind and recognize the importance of having access to the latest updates. Also, the smooth transition from SYSPRO 7 to SYSPRO 8 earned positive feedback from users, giving us the confidence to continue adding new features,” Kazakevics says.

The Automail document emailing system from NexSys sends an order acknowledgement, dispatch notes and invoices. We can track the status of every customer and if a problem arises, we can respond quickly. Our customers have end-to-end visibility of their orders and that gives us a competitive edge.”

Looking to the future

To support BPW Limited’s strategy to remain agile, Kazakevics and her team keep a little black book of ideas on how to get even more out of SYSPRO and NexSys solutions. “There are so many possibilities, from Business Insights to support with part number creation,” she says. “We also need to get better at forecasting to help our suppliers plan better and SYSPRO will prove key to making that happen. It will be integral to the future of our business.”

BPW Limited also intends to develop even closer ties with the NexSys team.
